Large areas of Hungary are on flood alert following the melting of ice in several rivers and lakes across the country, according to reports.
The news comes amid weeks of freezing temperatures, which are now finally letting up, however the thawing weather is causing flooding across the nation.
According to Euronews.com, homes and cars are submerged in the east of the country, with boats and piers also damaged in the region.
On the frozen Tisza River, a ferry was trapped after being swept away by ice floes. Fortunately a military helicopter was at hand to rescue the night watchman on board.
Hundreds of kilometers of waterways are affected by the flood alert. And while there are no reports of injuries, authorities are urging the utmost vigilance.
