Hungary to launch own COVID-19 testing kit

The new COVID-19 test requires a blood test and the result will be available within a few hours.

Human Resources Minister, Miklós Kásler has announced that Hungary has finished developing a prototype of its own COVID-19 testing kit that will be “significantly more precise” than any of the rapid tests currently in use.

The minister said the new COVID-19 test requires a blood test and the result will be available within a few hours. Production of the testing kits will begin within a few weeks. By developing the testing kit, Hungary has also found a method that can serve as a basis for the development of a novel coronavirus vaccine.

Chief Medical Officer Cecilía Müller said that after successfully isolating and reproducing the novel coronavirus, virologists were now examining its genetic makeup in an effort to identify the strains that have been spreading in Hungary.
