Hungary’s armed forces purchase new short-range missile

The contract for the IRIS-T air-to-air guided missiles was signed with German weapons maker Diehl.

Gáspár Maróth, government commissioner for defense developments, said Hungary’s armed forces are purchasing new short-range missiles based on German technology.

According to MTI, Maróth noted that the contract for the IRIS-T air-to-air guided missiles was signed with German weapons maker Diehl. The purchase will allow the Hungarian Armed Forces to equip its Gripen fighters with the most advanced air combat technology. Unlike the Sidewinder missiles that have been in use until now, the IRIS-Ts can be used in the most difficult air strike situations even under heavy overload, he added. Hungary also plans to develop its air force’s BVR and air-to-ground capabilities.
