Hungary's FM stands by the UK over Brexit and vows to protect Hungarians' rights in the country

Péter Szijjártó said the Hungarian government was interested in promoting a “fair” agreement between the UK and the EU

Hungary's foreign minister has said there is a realistic chance for Hungary to meet its goals in connection with the UK leaving the European Union.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the Hungarian government was interested in promoting a “fair” agreement between the UK and the EU, maintaining tight business relations and continuing a security cooperation with the UK.

The minister also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the acquired rights of Hungarian nationals living in the UK are maintained after Brexit.

Minister Szijjártó voiced regret that the UK is leaving the community but said it was “up to that country’s residents exclusively” and declined to comment on their decision.
