Hungary’s retail sales grew by an annual 6.3 percent in September, accelerating from a 5.3 percent rate of increase in August.

Hungary’s retail sales grew by an annual 6.3 percent in September, accelerating from a 5.3 percent rate of increase in August.

The Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Wednesday that calendar-adjusted data shows retail sales were up 5.8 percent year-on-year in September.

MTI highlights that adjusted food sales were up 3 percent, non-food sales increased by 8.6 percent, while vehicle fuel sales were up 6.1 percent. In the non-food segment, adjusted retail sales of non-specialized stores rose by 12 percent.

In absolute terms, retail sales were worth HUF 1,025 billion in September. In January-September, retail sales grew by 5.8 percent, according to both unadjusted and calendar year-adjusted data. Adjusted food sales rose by 3.2 percent, non-food sales by 8.7 percent and fuel sales by 6.9 percent.
