Hungary's trade surplus reaches 959 million euros in May

According to official figures, imports rose annually by 18.7 percent to 8.102 billion euros. Exports went up by 19.7 percent to 9.061 billion euros

Hungary’s trade surplus hit 959 million euros in May, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) has revealed.

According to official figures, imports rose annually by 18.7 percent to 8.102 billion euros. Exports went up by 19.7 percent to 9.061 billion euros.

Exports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 17.1 percent, food exports climbed by 22.1 percent and exports of manufactured goods went up by 20.4 percent.

About 79 percent of exports went to other European Union members states. Energy imports were up by 45.0 percent during the same period.

Hungary’s terms of trade worsened 1.2 percent in May from the same month last year as the forint firmed 1.5 percent to the euro but weakened 0.9 percent against the dollar.
