It has been announced that an illegal immigrant previously detained at the borderline managed to make his way to Budapest where he attacked a woman with a knife.
The 20-year-old Pakistani man attacked a 19-year-old girl with the knife in Budapest on Friday, it was reported over the weekend.
Speaking on M1’s Saturday evening current affairs program, György Bakondi said the man stole the girl’s phone and money and the incident was caught on camera, thanks to which the police were quickly able to apprehend the perpetrator.
The Pakistani citizen had previously been caught illegally crossing the border, after which he submitted a request for asylum, which was rejected; he appealed the decision and six months later was accommodated in the open refugee camp in Bicske, from where he travelled to Budapest.
According to Bakondi, police suspect the man was trying to acquire enough money to travel on illegally to Western Europe, and the incident is also an indicator of the fact that migrants’ “activities in public spaces” are often in conflict with the law throughout Europe.
