Justice Minister learnt with 'regret and deep shock' about OBT decision on wages

Bence Tuzson said the agreement was designed to raise the salaries of judges by an average 48 percent in the next three years, as well as to double the wages of clerical staff.

Bence Tuzson, Minister of Justice, said he had learnt with "regret and deep shock" the National Judicial Council's (OBT) Wednesday decision on a quadrilateral agreement aimed at increasing the efficiency of the judiciary and raising wages in the sector.

According to a statement the minister sent to MTI, Tuzson said the agreement was designed to raise the salaries of judges by an average 48 percent in the next three years, as well as to double the wages of clerical staff.

The OBT's decision "not only goes against the body's earlier position but suggests deep inconsistency that casts a doubt on the body's credibility," the minister said. "Decisions conflicting with each other reflect a lack of seriousness, which hinders cooperation in shaping the future of the judiciary," Tuzson said, adding that "the government continues to consider the agreement as effective."
