Justice Minister Judit Varga said the new operational model that sees universities shifting from being state-run to being operated by foundations represents freedom and responsibility.
Addressing a roundtable discussion in Budapest, Minister Varga said the university model change was “one of the most fantastic things” to happen to Hungarian universities over the past 50-100 years. Minister Varga, who heads the supervisory board of the University of Miskolc (ME), said the foundation model allowed universities like ME to put greater emphasis on their regional responsibility. Meanwhile, Minister Varga also stressed the importance of incorporating the interests and ideas of young people into legislation.
