Justice Minister Judit Varga said that in terms of migration, solidarity among European Union member states means for Hungary also the need to protect the bloc’s external borders.
After a meeting of the General Affairs Council in Brussels, the minister said the protection of the EU Schengen area is a task that means protecting the external borders. She noted Hungary’s contribution in performing the task by building a border fence and reiterated the government’s call for the EU to contribute financing. Minister Varga said Brussels’ migrant distribution quota was for Hungary “a red line not to be crossed”. She reiterated Hungary’s position that a solution to the problem of migration had to be resolved where it emerged instead of importing it to Europe, adding that “migration must be stopped on the whole”.
