With a total of 48 educational areas in five disciplines, QS has listed the best universities around the world, including in the performing arts category. Out of all the art universities in the Central and Eastern European region, only the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music made the top 50.
Similarly to last year, ten Hungarian universities have been ranked in the QS list this year. Besides the Academy of Music, only one other Hungarian institution has been ranked among the top 50 in their fields, and no other Hungarian art university has been included in the top 100.
Hungarian Insider points out that the creators of QS specialty rankings take into account five aspects, one of which is the reputation and prestige of the institution in its specific sphere.
Another important aspect is the frequency of citation of papers associated with the institution. There are many references to the Academy of Music’s research results, such as the continuous improvement of the Kodály method and the strengthening of the Liszt cult.
The third aspect is the number of students per tutor. In this, the Academy of Music performed exceptionally well because of the characteristics of individual training, as a single student is usually trained by two or more teachers.
The fourth is the opinion of the employers; the fifth and sixth are the international openness of the institution and the proportion of foreign students and teachers.
