More than 1,700 people will wear masks to scare away winter at the annual Busójárás in Mohács this weekend.

The Busójárás (“Busó-walking”) celebration is held at the end of the Carnival season in Mohács and lasts for six days, between February 20-25.

The famous six-day carnival event features about 80 programs in 36 different locations, including dance halls, balls, exhibitions, Busó shows, and gastronomic delights. Around 1,750 Busós from 64 Busó groups will also entertain visitors throughout the extravaganza.

On February 23, during Carnival Sunday, Busós will cross the Danube by boat, march downtown, launch a carnival coffin, inaugurate new Busós and light a huge bonfire in the city’s main square.
