Migrant crisis is a long-term problem

Unless measures can be taken to protect our borders and deal with the migrant crisis then it will only continue or get worse

Migration is not expected to come to an end in the short-term, as the pool of potential migrants is so large, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the prime minister has said.

He also said that the EU position on migration is shifting and the union is coming to realize that there will be no internal security until there is appropriate border protection. He explained that this cannot be provided by others instead of us, such as Turkey.

Bakondi pointed out that individual nation states have already taken measures to protect their citizens, as they have recognized their needs.

On the Hungarian border it can be seen that, thanks to the decisive actions taken by Hungarian authorities, the activities of people smugglers have been disrupted.

Bakondi said, at the moment it is not expected that there will be a repeat of the mass influx of illegal immigrants seen last summer and autumn, when eight to ten thousand people a day crossed Hungary’s borders.
