The VI. Madách International Theater Meeting (MITEM) has announced that it will hold 23 performances from 13 countries at the Budapest National Theater between April 11th and May 5th, 2019.
Péter Fekete, Secretary of State for Culture of the Ministry of Human Capacities, said MITEM has become one of the most important parts of Hungary’s cultural life in the last half decade.
The Secretary of State also added that in the last five years since the founding of MITEM, over 90 performances from 32 countries were introduced in Hungary. Today, MITEM is undoubtedly an important factor in the wide range of European and world theater events.
Fekete said MITEM proves that artistic thoughts and expression can be a common language. He said the most important thing is “to learn to respect for each other's culture and the other person through his culture”.
Attila Vidnyánszky, Director General of the National Theater, said that the performances will see returning guests, while two new countries Kazakhstan and Portugal are also introducing themselves at the upcoming meeting.
This year, besides Hungary, theater from twelve countries will participate in the event, including: Serbia, Russia, Denmark, Ukraine, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, France and Sweden.
