More than 12,000 refugees arrived in Hungary on Wednesday.
According to the national police headquarters, 5,707 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Wednesday, while another 6,523 from Ukraine crossed from Romania. Police issued temporary residence permits valid for 30 days to 779 people, the police website said on Thursday. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within 30 days to apply for permanent documents, it said. Budapest police received 558 refugees, 194 children among them, by train, according to the municipal police website.
