Müpa announces star-studded 15th anniversary season

Throughout 2020 a number of events will be held to mark the 15th anniversary of Budapest’s Palace of Arts.

Jazz legend Chick Chorea will kick off the 15th anniversary celebrations of Budapest’s Palace of Arts with a new piece written for the occasion and honoring the work of Béla Bartók.

Taking place on March 24, the spectacular event will also include an array of performers and specially constructed programs for the occasion.

Throughout 2020 a number of other events will be held to mark the anniversary year, including a performance by Ute Lemper in homage of Marlene Dietrich, the Dresden Staatskapelle under the baton of Christian Thielemann, and the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Kirill Petrenko.

Director Csaba Káel said Czech coloratura soprano Zuzana Markova will star in Bellini’s La Somnabula, directed by Csaba Némedi. Jazz Showcase, an event showcasing new talents in jazz, will be accompanied with programs for professionals.

Müpa is also one of the main organizers of the 40th Budapest Spring Festival, opening on April 3 and featuring artists such as Ton Koopman conducting the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, soprano Kristīne Opolais, the Győr Ballet and violinist Félix Lajkó as well as American tenor Lawrence Brownlee.
