Nagy: Rubik's cube is a symbol of national pride in Hungary

Minister Nagy said innovation was always a key element of Hungarian identity and culture.

Márton Nagy, the national economy minister, said on Thursday that the Rubik's cube is a symbol of national pride in Hungary as well as being a famous emblem abroad of Hungarian culture, ingenuity and "engineering spirit".

"The success of the Rubik's cube shows that Hungary, small as it is, can still have an impact in the world through innovation and creativity. It is no coincidence that the Hungarian government chose the Rubik's cube as a symbol of its presidency in 2024," Minister Nagy said on the day the Hungarian post office issued a block of stamps to mark the 50th anniversary of the game's patenting.

Minister Nagy said innovation was always a key element of Hungarian identity and culture. "Hungary's strategic geographical position also pushes us to adapt and to use creative solutions," he added.
