The largest archive of literary history, the Petofi Literary Museum will be replaced by the Petofi Literary Agency.
The founders of the museum met with Hungarian literary research organizations located in Transylvania, Upper Hungary, Zakarpattia Oblast and West-Croatia on Tuesday. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also attended the discussions.
Promoting works aptly conveying a Hungarian sentiment, the Literary Agency will take a new approach towards championing masterpieces in the country and abroad.
“Our new campaign will treat Hungarian literature as a coherent whole, a unity, deserving of the attention of Europe and beyond, the whole world,” states a recently-published founding document.
“Readers are the most vital element of contemporary literature,” the curators said. “Hungarian works have to reach a wider readership, and our job is to incite them to take up a more active interest.”
