New shark school opens at Budapest Zoo

Visitors will get the opportunity to try out some of the zookeepers’ tasks, to get closer to these animals and deconstruct common misconceptions about sharks

A new shark school has opened at Budapest Zoo, it has been announced.

A new building at the zoo’s Holnemvolt Castle houses three salt-watered pools, including two smaller pools with 30 and 90,000 liters of water and a larger tank holding 660,000 liters.

The attraction offers visitors an insight into different kinds of shark species and how the new-born sharks at the zoo are being taken care of and raised by the zookeepers.

Visitors also get the opportunity to try out some of the zookeepers’ tasks, to get closer to these animals and deconstruct common misconceptions about sharks.

The warm water necessary for the sharks survival will be provided by Széchenyi Thermal Bath, not far from the zoo.
