Sándor Czomba, the state secretary for employment policy at the national economy ministry, said the number of registered job-seekers dropped to 222,800 in June, the lowest number since 1989.
Citing figures from the National Employment Service, Czomba said the figure had dropped by nearly 1,500 from June 2023, and by over 3,000 compared with the previous month. The state secretary highlighted the government’s measures aimed at labor activity and added that the number of those economically active had increased by some 70,000 during the past year. Those entering the labour market “can find jobs almost instantly”, he said. Since 2010, the number of employed has increased by one million, earning “three times as much on average”, while the number of registered job-seekers has dropped by over 400,000, Czomba said. The government continues working to mobilize a labor potential of 300,000, and increase employment in the 20-64 age group from the current 81 to 85%, Czomba said.
