According to the national police headquarters, 5,312 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Tuesday, while another 3,975 from Ukraine crossed from Romania. Police issued temporary residence permits valid for 30 days to 272 people, the police website said on Wednesday. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within 30 days to apply for permanent documents. Budapest police received 289 refugees, 96 children among them, arriving by train.
