Pintér: Fight against organised crime among Hungary's EU Presidency priorities

"A war and fighting is currently underway at the EU borders, which makes it all the more important to fulfil Schengen expectations," Pintér said.

Interior Minister Sándor Pintér said the fight against organised crime within European Union borders is one of the priorities of the current Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Pintér told the press ahead of a meeting of EU counterparts in Luxembourg that the meeting's agenda included the fight against organised crime, including criminal acts committed online, child protection, and issues concerning the Schengen area. Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, is scheduled to present the Schengen Barometer and related information, he said.

He added that the full accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen area must also be discussed.

"A war and fighting is currently underway at the EU borders, which makes it all the more important to fulfil Schengen expectations," Pintér said.
