PM Orbán and President Áder pay their respects to the late János Horváth

PM Orbán described Horváth as “an uncompromising” politician who had “thought nothing impossible”.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sent a letter to the family of János Horváth commending the deceased politician and expressing his condolences.

The prime minister said Horváth belonged to a brave generation whose members had always remained faithful to their political conviction “even during the brownshirt and the communist dictatorship” while adhering to their independent, smallholder, civilian and patriotic spirit.

PM Orbán described Horváth as “an uncompromising” politician who had “thought nothing impossible”.

Meanwhile, President János Áder addressed Horváth’s funeral, who died aged 98 in November.

President Áder said Horváth had been determined “to shape the world and himself in order to help everyone live as a free and independent citizen in a free and independent country”.

Horváth came from an era in which “freedom was not inherited from predecessors, and every generation suffered from its aching absence. Today he stands as a moral beacon,” he said at the funeral held in Cece, in south-western Hungary.
