Christian culture is the source of all power, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at the consecration of a Reformed church in Budapest.
"We Hungarians believe that Christian culture is not the source of just one, but of all power, the cornerstone holding together the edifice of European civilization", PM Orbán said at the ceremony. "Without it, there is neither freedom nor European life."
According to Rmx.news, PM Orbán said that the church is also a reminder of the original Christian ideals behind the establishment of the European Union. He said that faith and perseverance will eventually always win.
The construction of the church - located in Pesterzsébet, Budapest's suburban 20th district - began in 1939 and only the basement had been completed when World War II broke out and halted the work. The subsequent Soviet occupation and 40 years of Communist rule meant the project remained on hold.
In 2017, the local Reformed community - with a combined funding of HUF 375 million (EUR 1.17 mln) from the government and the local municipality - was eventually resumed in 2017 according to the original plans.
