PM Orbán congratulates Aleksandar Vučić on Serbian presidency and hopes for a more stable Balkans region

PM Orbán expressed the hope that the successful Serbian-Hungarian strategic relations witnessed in recent years will continue to develop under Vučić's leadership

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has congratulated Aleksandar Vučić on his landslide victory in the Serbian presidential election, the first prime minister to win the presidency in the country.

Kormany.hu also reports that PM Orbán expressed the hope that the successful Serbian-Hungarian strategic relations witnessed in recent years will continue to develop under his leadership.

PM Orbán wrote in a letter that “it is my firm belief that your victory is a clear recognition of your work as prime minister. Under your leadership Serbia has become a major contributor to regional stability, and has made significant steps towards gaining EU membership. In this cause Hungary will continue to provide all possible political and specialist support”.

Last week, addressing the European People Party's congress, PM Orbán stressed that we need a new European foreign policy in which stability is central. He further highlighted the importance of stability in the Western Balkans, for which acceleration of European integration of the countries concerned is necessary. The new Serbian presidency and Hungary's relationship with Serbia is key to combating this issue.
