PM Orbán congratulates Sebastian Kurz on Austrian election win

Hungary's foreign minister expressed his joy that a candidate for Chancellor is from a party that works so closely with the Hungarian government on migration and on many important issues

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sent a letter to congratulate Sebastian Kurz on the Austrian Peoples’ Party victory in Sunday’s election.

“Yesterday’s result has clearly shown that the majority of the electorate in Austria also cast their vote in favor of value-based policies that guarantee security and stability. I trust that following the successful formation of a government we will be able to continue and strengthen the cooperation between our two countries as close allies and according to the Christian-conservative values that you also consistently represent," the prime minister wrote. “I wish you success in the upcoming coalition negotiations," he added.

Meanwhile, Péter Szijjártó, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said Kurz has always spoken clearly and has never been a slave to political correctness and hypocrisy. The minister made the remarks in Luxembourg prior to a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Minister Szijjártó congratulated the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) on its victory and wished ÖVP leader and candidate for Chancellor Sebastian Kurz success in forming a new government.

The minister expressed his joy that a candidate for chancellor is from a party that works so closely with the Hungarian government on migration and on many important issues.

Minister Szijjártó said Europe needs more people who speak openly and clearly about the most serious problems affecting the people of Europe.
