Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's address to a meeting of the ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrat parties in Balatonfüred, in western Hungary, focused on a "new international situation created by the inauguration of Donald Trump", Magyar Nemzet reported online late on Tuesday.
In his address, PM Orbán said the new US president's inauguration meant that "proponents of the global liberal ideology have lost the capital of the greatest power in the Western world."
The new US administration is "patriotic and anti-migration, advocating a traditional, family-based thinking rather than the gender ideology," the paper quoted Orban as saying. "A friendly government treating Hungary as a partner has entered office," PM Orbán stressed, adding that it made it possible for the country to "think big". "For the past 15 years we were sailing against head-wind, and finally we have back-wind," he said. "The Soros network has lost Washington and the new administration has started eliminating the network, which means it will no longer be raining dollars ... Soros can only rely on Brussels and the European taxpayers' money," PM Orbán said.
The prime minister warned, however, that "the ideology that failed in Washington, still rules in Brussels ... they treat Hungary as an enemy; Hungary's real political adversaries are in Brussels." "They want to oust the patriotic government and set up a puppet government, they seek to tell us what we Hungarians are allowed to do and what we must not ... they are the empire and we are the rebels to prevent that," PM Orbán said. "Moreover, we will cooperate with those with a similar mindset in Europe and America, and after Washington, we will occupy Brussels, too," he added.
Concerning Ukraine, PM Orbán said its EU integration would put an end to direct subsidies for Hungarian farmers, and "those monies would be sent to Ukraine."
The US will no longer finance Ukraine and "Brussels seeks to make Europeans, including us Hungarians pay for that," he said, adding that "a proposal has already been tabled that we Hungarians should give Ukraine an annual 200 billion forints."
"For the time being, Ukraine has not met any criteria for its EU accession, therefore it is out of the question," he said.
Meanwhile, he said that "Trump and Musk have uncovered the network of political corruption of Soros and the Democrats that distributed billions of dollars in the media and among international organisations, also in Hungary, but they will no longer pay rolling dollars to their mercenaries in Hungary." "Political corruption is when one is paid to write what they are requested," PM Orbán said, and asked the deputies to pass strict laws and "ban from Hungary all those that received from those funds."
"The empire has lost a battle in Washington and is losing the war ... they want to hit back in Hungary in 2026 ... they have hired new troops, they will come back with a new army. We must stand ready and win. This year will be that of a breakthrough," he said.
Concerning recent talks between the US and Russia, PM Orbán said that "Europe has been left out ... Hungary continues to support a ceasefire and peace."
