PM Orbán to propose György Matolcsy for second term as NBH governor

Matolcsy’s six-year mandate as National Bank of Hungary governor ends on March 3rd, 2019 and he will receive the prime minister's support for a second term

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will propose György Matolcsy for another term as governor of the National Bank of Hungary (NBH), it has been announced.

According to MTI, Matolcsy’s six-year mandate as National Bank of Hungary governor ends on March 3rd, 2019 and he will receive the prime minister's support for a second term.

The NBH governor is appointed by the president of Hungary based on the proposal of the prime minister, after a hearing before a parliamentary committee. There is a two-term limit for NBH governor.

When asked in January who he would propose to fill the top spot at the central bank when Matolcsy’s mandate ends, PM Orbán said “no surprise is expected”.
