Prime Minister Orbán wishes Andrej Babis a speedy recovery after campaign attack

PM Orbán said Babis had been demonised for years by political opponents but would not give up and would win the election

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Monday wished former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis a swift recovery after he was assaulted at a campaign event in the northern Moravian town of Dobré, where an attendee struck him several times with a crutch.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Orbán remarked that violence had now seeped into Czech politics as well, following similar incidents in Slovakia. “It is no wonder. Political opponents have been demonising Andrej Babis for years. This is the result. Nevertheless, they will not stop him. He will not give up, and he will win the elections!” he wrote.

The Hungarian premier also extended a personal message of support, adding in English: “Get well soon, my friend!”

Andrej Babis is leading the Moravian-Silesian list of the opposition Action of Dissatisfied Citizens (ANO) movement in the Czech parliamentary elections scheduled for October 3–4.
