Bertalan Havasi, head of the press office of the Prime Minister, said that prior to the EU summit today, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with the prime ministers of the Visegrád (V4) countries.
Havasi said that the V4 countries adopted a joint statement, which declares that, even in the current crisis period of the European Union, the V4 Member States share the same interests, and they will firmly represent these interests during the upcoming EU talks.
Following the V4 meeting, Csaba Dömötör, parliamentary state secretary in the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister, said that in Hungary’s view the current crisis has largely been triggered by the fact that the European Union has been unable to handle the migration crisis. Instead of the protection of borders, it is proposing forced resettlement and mandatory quotas.
“We insist that Hungarians should be able to decide who they wish to live with. That is why the autumn referendum is necessary," Dömötör pointed out.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameron also said that the reason for the British people voting for Brexit was due to the EU's immigration policy.
