The German government is now consistent in refusing illegal migration, says minister

Minister Gulyás said it's now the German government’s position that countries of the Schengen area have to fulfill their obligations to protect the external borders

Gergely Gulyás has pointed out that the German government is now consistent in refusing illegal migration.

The minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office made the remarks following talks with his German counterpart, Helge Braun, head of the Chancellery and federal minister for Special Affairs, on Wednesday evening in Berlin.

Minister Gulyás said it's now the German government’s position that countries of the Schengen area have to fulfill their obligations to protect the external borders.

Hungarian-German political relations have changed in the last couple of years at least as much as the German approach to migration, Gulyás said, emphasizing that they remain a priority.

However, in some questions -- for example, the integration of so-called parallel societies of minority communties -- there’s no consensus. That’s why Hungary emphasizes that we can live together with views differing from ours, the minister said.

He added that every nation has to decide individually if it wants migrants or not, and the Hungarian voters have taken this decision clearly.
