The Hungarian government will dedicate 2018 to families, it has been announced.

According to MTI, families will get enhanced government support next year, which has officially been declared a year dedicated to families.

Katalin Novák, the state secretary for family, youth and international affairs, said couples planning a family or already raising children will receive additional support.

Novák cited family-friendly taxation rules, favorable changes in childcare fees for university graduates, added support for mortgage holders, the option of relief on student loan repayments as well as the continuation of the kindergarten development scheme as key support initiatives.

The state secretary added that a new scheme dubbed ‘Umbilical Cord’ will be launched in 2018, targeted at Hungarians whose children are born abroad.

János Halász, the Fidesz party parliamentary group spokesman, said that it is important to protect Hungarian families and to help them.
