The interior minister has said the Visegrad Group countries are “pioneers” whose policies are now gaining a following among European Union member states.
Following a V4-Austria interior ministerial meeting in Budapest, Sándor Pintér said Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia see eye to eye in all areas.
He added that Hungary’s V4 presidency in the past year had been a successful one, especially in protecting Hungary’s border and helping other countries.
He said there is now a chance to provide help to Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and underlined the importance of eliminating human smuggling.
The minister said Slovakia would have Hungary’s full backing during its V4 presidency over the next 12 months when it takes over on July 1st.
Pintér also asked his Austrian counterpart to fight to achieve the goals of the central European countries when it holds the EU’s rotating presidency in the second half of the year.
The aim is to have all member states on the same page on the issues of migration, border protection, and open internal borders, he said.
