The Visegrad Four (V4) group's contribution to the reunification of Germany has been recognized by a monument in Berlin.

The plaque - by Hans Joachim Albrecht, titled “Crouching figure straightening” - was erected at the central Berlin Wall memorial near the longest remaining section of the Wall.

The unveiling was attended by former German parliamentary speaker Rita Süssmuth and Hungarian deputy parliamentary speaker Gergely Gulyás, among other high-ranking German and Hungarian diplomats.

Gulyas said that “despite our differences”, Germany is certain to remain the V4 group’s most important partner within the EU. With the UK leaving the bloc, Germany is to acquire a “leading role," he said.
