Viktor Orbán in contact with winning Italian right-wing party leaders

Intensive communication has been underway between Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the leaders of the Italian right-wing parties expected to form a government after Sunday's parliamentary elections, the prime minister’s press chief told MTI.

PM Orbán wrote in a letter to prime minister-designate Giorgia Meloni that the success of Fratelli d’Italia was a victory for the Conservative-Christian values that “are also the basis of our cooperation and friendship.” Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, he noted that in such challenging times, the importance of predictable partnerships is particularly appreciated. “I look forward to our future cooperation in order to preserve peace in our countries and in Europe, to relaunch the European economy, and to alleviate the energy crisis,” he underlined.

Earlier, the Hungarian prime minister sent a message to Giorgia Meloni on her social media page, writing, “A more than deserved victory. Congratulations!” He also contacted Lega leader Matteo Salvini and Forza Italia President Silvio Berlusconi, congratulating both of them on the electoral victory and thanking them for their friendship and cooperation.
