Wages continue to rise in Hungary

KSH data shows that in May 2019 the average gross wage in Hungary was HUF 364,400 (EUR 1,112).

Data by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show that Hungarian wages have risen by 11.2 percent in May compared to the same month in 2018.

KSH data shows that in May 2019 the average gross wage in Hungary was HUF 364,400 (EUR 1,112) while the average gross wage for the January-May period was HUF 358,400 translating into a net wage of HUF 238,300 (EUR 727).

Up until May this year, the cumulated rise in gross wages in the past four years (since May 2015) stands at 50.4 percent.

Rmx.news points out that the recent wage rises were fuelled by a lack of qualified workers and a recent increase in minimum wages.

KSH has at the beginning of the year changed its wage statistics methodology, making the data even more reliable. The statistics are now drawn directly from the electronic income ledgers of the Hungarian Tax Office, meaning actual wages instead of the previous estimates based on various sources.
