Prime Minister Viktor Orbán today announced that the restrictions on movement will remain in place for the time being.
"We listened to the opinions of mayors and the police, we talked to epidemiological experts and collected the opinions of scientists. There was a consensus that the restrictions already in place were sensible. They were sensible and successful in that they managed to slow down the spread of the epidemic," he said. "In light of this, we have made the following decisions. We are extending the duration of movement restrictions. We are extending them indefinitely. We will reconsider them on a weekly basis.”
"We are granting a special opportunity, an extraordinary right to mayors: until Monday midnight - during Easter - they can make additional extraordinary, more severe decisions with regards to their respective settlements," he added.
“If you will allow me, after these decisions, I would like to make some requests. Primarily, I would like to ask you to observe the restrictive regulations. I would like to ask you to avoid group gatherings, keep distance in public spaces. And I would like to ask you to pay special attention to elderly people. That is, I would like to ask you to accept that this Easter period is going to be different from our usual Easter periods. Please, also during Easter time, let’s take care of each other," the prime minister concluded.
