Facebook statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán

16 September 2024, Visegrád

This is Visegrád. Flood defences. We were here in 2013, during the last big flood on the Danube. The situation is easier today than it was then. It seems that the highest water level will be lower than in 2013, and in the meantime we’ve built a mobile flood barrier system. We’ve used the mobile flood barrier to replace hundreds of thousands of sandbags. The mobile barrier is visually striking, safe and offers people security, and the work is being carried out in a fast but calm manner. All missing sections are being filled with sandbags, but the main line of defence will be formed by the mobile barrier, which runs for  kilometres – almost two kilometres – up here in a northerly direction. It won’t be simple, but as far as I can see the people of Visegrád will be able to do it.
