On Saturday afternoon I convened a meeting of the Defence Council, because the events in Iran may have a direct or indirect impact on Hungary’s security situation – particularly with regard to our energy security. Hungarian soldiers are serving in the Middle East, but they haven’t been affected by military strikes and they are well. We must count on an increased likelihood of terrorist acts throughout Europe – as has recently been the case, particularly in countries with significant migrant populations. Hungary is in a much better position, but nevertheless we’re raising its terror alert level by one level. Due to the conflict, a significant increase in energy prices is expected on the world market. In this situation, it’s crucial that we break President Zelenskyy’s oil blockade on Hungary. In the coming weeks, therefore, we shall maintain the countermeasures introduced against Ukraine.
