Press statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán before his meeting with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić

27 November 2025, Subotica/Szabadka

Hello, Ladies and Gentlemen.

I am grateful to be here. It is an honour for me to accept an award, together with your president. Mr. President, thank you for this! I am always happy to come here. The truth is that we should meet every week – the world is changing so fast, and so many events are happening, that meetings almost every week would be justified. Of course that is not possible, because we have a thousand other things to deal with; but we have tasked our foreign ministers with establishing the closest possible cooperation, and our economic ministers as well. So I can say that nowadays there is weekly contact – high-level contact – between Serbia and Hungary. I am thankful for the support that Hungary has received so far from Serbia and President Vučić; and of course, in return you can always count on the help of Hungarians in these complicated times.

Now we will have a working lunch, or I could say a “working burek”, because one cannot leave Subotica/Szabadka without eating burek – it is a mandatory part of every official Hungarian visit. I really hope that today we will be able to go through the difficult issues, related to energy supply, sanctions, peace, and your oil supply. All of these issues will now be on the agenda during our working lunch. I hope that this evening we will be able to report on good, productive meetings.

Thank you for your attention.
