Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s reply to Members of Parliament responding to his address in Parliament

23 February 2026, Budapest

Thank you for the floor, Mr. Speaker. I won’t address the issues that we’ve already had the opportunity to discuss here. I’ll only talk about what’s new.

First of all, when I was listening to you here, I realised that the main novelty in what I was hearing was related to its genre: I’ve heard of swan songs, but this is the first time I’ve heard a swan choir. While you’ve been speaking about us in pitying tones, all I can say [about the opposition parties] is that MSZP are out, Momentum are out, Jobbik are out, Párbeszéd are out, LMP are out, and DK are out. This is your own doing. Having achieved such a thing, gentlemen, a little modesty would be in order!

What I still need to mention is the comment on Hungarian sovereignty made by my fellow representative Imre Komjáthi [of the MSZP]. I’d like to make it clear to my fellow representative that every square centimetre of Hungary belongs to Hungary, and Hungarian law must prevail on every square centimetre of Hungary. Unfortunately, that’s the limit of the common ground you and I share.
Several people here have repeatedly and shamelessly lied about the situation in Göd. I’d like to repeat calmly and quietly: you are lying – [gesturing towards the opposition benches] you, you, you and you! You’ve lied about this matter, because Hungary currently has the strictest environmental regulations in force, and our authorities enforce these regulations. And if that were not enough, I’ll now inform the public that every quarter measurements of water, air and soil quality are carried out by Göd local government – not the central government! Not once have they measured pollution from the factory that’s above the permitted limit. The data is published continuously, and you’re all familiar with it. The reason that I’m being blunt with you now is that if this were data that you didn’t have access to, and you were simply making false claims due to a lack of knowledge, I wouldn’t mention it. But since the local government publishes this data every quarter, you all know it, [pointing at the opposition benches] you, you, and you. And yet you come here and lie, in order to mislead people. I don’t think this is the proper way to go about things!

In conclusion, Mr. Speaker and fellow representatives, I must say that today I’ve learned that when there’s a conflict between Ukraine and Hungary, the parliamentary opposition – all of them – side with Ukraine. All of you have sided with the Ukrainians against your own country, against Hungarian families and Hungarian companies – all of you, every single one of you! It’s entirely right that you’re disappearing from here, from Parliament; because in a Ukrainian–Hungarian conflict there’s no need for parties in the Hungarian parliament that side with the Ukrainians. On behalf of the Hungarian government, I can only say that the situation is that we must defend Hungary’s peace, security and Hungarian families’ money without you – and we shall defend them, even though you have sided with the Ukrainians.

Thank you for your kind attention.
