“The foreign ministers of European Union countries do not seem to have grasped the full scope of the danger yet," said Péter Szijjártó.
The European Union must establish a “new kind of partnership” with Turkey both in terms of economic cooperation and their joint handling of migration.
EU interior ministers insisted that the Afghan people must be helped to stay in the region and supported there.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the American people in these difficult times,” PM Orbán said.
The defense minister thanked the forces for completing the evacuation “in the line of fire bravely and in a well-organized manner”.
Some 87 percent of “Afghans with ties to Hungary” were also evacuated, including 57 families and 180 children.
Besides Hungarian citizens, Hungary has also helped locals and their families who worked with the Hungarian mission in Afghanistan.
The first aircraft involved in the Afghanistan rescue operations arrived in Budapest late on Sunday with 173 people on board.
The prime minister acknowledged the soldiers participating in the evacuation mission and the risks they face.
Hungary has so far helped 10 families, altogether 78 people, out of Taliban-occupied territories in Afghanistan.
