Tibor Navracsics met Didier Reynders, the justice commissioner, and Johannes Hahn, the budget commissioner, on the implementation of “super milestone” measures connected with the release of EU funds.
The next and final round of talks on topics related to unblocking the funding will start on Thursday.
Tibor Navracsics confirmed that once the EU resources are transferred, teachers’ wage hikes would be made.
Minister Varga said on Facebook that she had written a letter to Didier Reynders, the European Commissioner for Justice, saying that Hungary had fulfilled all its commitments regarding “judicial milestones”.
The justice minister said the debate on the rule of law can only progress if the "politically motivated discourse" in the European Union is replaced by an "unbiased, international constitutional dialogue."
The scheme was approved under the State Aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework, adopted by the Commission in March, to support measures in sectors which are key to accelerating the green transition and reducing fuel dependencies.
The EU has called for contributions because earlier support for war-torn Ukraine had left its budget tens of billions of euros in the red.
Didier Reynders said the Commission will continue consultations with Hungary on the implementation of all reforms and the fulfilment of all criteria necessary for unlocking the funds.
Balázs Hidvéghi, an MEP of ruling Fidesz, said MEPs together with the Hungarian “dollar left” are preparing another “deceitful” report condemning Hungary.
The meeting included discussions which may result in support for Hungary’s access to European Union funds.
Minister Navracsics told the Hungarian press that the government had not given up its plan to fulfil the milestones set by the EC and consequently have access to the EU funds.
