Cooperation between Hungary and Georgia has steadily developed in recent years, including in the energy, pharmaceutical and food industry sectors.
Minister Szijjártó said on Facebook that "dozens of European Union countries simply don't understand that democracy is about the will of the people" and not "appointed from Brussels".
Hungary's government is prepared to develop cooperation with Georgia based on mutual respect and support the European integration process, Minister Szijjártó said in a post on Facebook.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been invited by Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia's prime minister.
The foreign minister said the Hungarian government will continue to promote Georgia’s EU integration “with all its might” and will do everything to forward the process during Hungary’s current EU presidency.
Discussions included the possible role of Georgia in the development of an energy corridor linking the Caucasus region with Europe.
The foreign minister said Georgia is an important partner when it comes to overcoming the challenges faced by Europe.
Connecting the EU with the Caucasian region is in the interest of Europe, and “linking up with Georgia is the easiest way in that,” PM Orbán said.
Minister Szijjártó said Georgia was in no worse condition than either Ukraine or Moldova, which was why it also deserved candidate status for membership.
The two countries shared the same principles that included nurturing and representing traditional national and Christian values which strengthened their political ties.
