Pope Francis was in Budapest to celebrate the closing mass of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.
The pope said the feeling of religion was what gave life to the Hungarian nation.
The 52nd International Eucharistic Congress opening mass on Sunday was concelebrated by 100 bishops and some 300 priests.
"The Eucharist is the source for the life and mission of Christians," Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, said.
Zoltán Kovács said it was important that the congress is organized under the safest possible circumstances, emphasizing the importance of the safety of those visiting the country for the event.
The International Eucharistic Congress will be held in Budapest from Sept. 5 to 12 where Pope Francis will make an appearance.

President Áder said he had visited the Vatican with the intention of inviting the pope to the International Eucharistic Congress scheduled for September 13-20.
