Following his press statement this morning, Prime Minister Orbán spoke in Parliament about the state of the country’s defenses against the coronavirus pandemic. Although he was clear that the government is ready to act with or without the opposition, the PM implored everyone to "rise to the challenge" of these “difficult times.”
At a press briefing this morning, Gergely Gulyás noted that the state of emergency could only remain in force for a period of 15 days, after which parliament’s approval would be necessary for an extension.
The Hungarian government believes it may be necessary to uphold the measures of the state of emergency declared on Wednesday in the weeks or months ahead.
If approved by the government, the state of emergency will allow the authorities to order people to self-isolate in their homes.
