The renowned Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow will host an operetta gala to honour acclaimed Hungarian composer Imre Kálmán for the first time in its history on Sunday.
Organizers have revealed that the gala will open the theatre season and will also feature Hungarian soprano Andrea Rost and tenor Gergely Boncsér together with Russian counterpart Elena Guseva and Aleksei Nekliudov.
Russian-born baritone Anatoly Fokanov and Austrian tenor Andreas Schager will be taking part. Hungarian violinist Kristóf Baráti will also appear as a special guest.
Mikhail Shvydkoy, the Russian president’s envoy for international cultural cooperation, said that the gala had been initiated by Yvonne Kálmán, the composer’s daughter.
Prior to the gala evening, Hungary’s Human Resources Minister Miklós Kásler and Russia’s Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinskiy will sign a pact on cultural cooperation over the next two years.
