Former Brescia defender Marco Rossi is to replace Belgian Georges Leekens as the Hungarian national football team coach, it has been announced.
The Hungarian Football Association (HFA) confirmed that the Italian coach has signed a two-year deal and his task is to take the team to the Euro 2020 tournament.
Hungary will host four matches in the euro football event and is hoping to once again become a leading team in world soccer.
The HFA said in a statement that former head Leekens brought “little improvement” as coach and are hoping Rossi will deliver better.
Rossi has previously won the Hungarian league with Budapest Honved in 2017, so is therefore familiar with Hungarian football and officials hope this experience will prove beneficial for Hungary’s international aspirations.
