CEU is generating its own hysteria in Hungary, the ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has said.
“The government has concluded agreements with several universities from outside Europe on their operations in Hungary; the generation of hysteria is only occurring with relation to the CEU, because this is what the ‘Soros university’ has an interest in,” the ministry said in a statement.
Outlined in the statement sent to MTI, the rally on Saturday in favor of the university also confirms that protests with relation to the university are simply hysteria.
The ministry added that the government’s standpoint remains unchanged: “Hungary is a state that is governed by the rule of law, and the law applies equally to everyone, including the Soros university”.
The government is fully aware that the ‘Soros university’ did not previously perform education activities in the United States; the institution’s American “campus” is a wooden shed on the territory of Bard College, which also has ties to George Soros, but its courses are not taught there.
“What is occurring now is a Soros-style bluff and the latest stop in the generation of political hysteria,” the ministry concluded.
