Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, has announced that Hungary’s operative board responsible for coordinating the response to the new coronavirus outbreak is proposing that the Hungarian government order a state of emergency.
According to MTI, Gulyás said the government is also considering a proposal to close the borders to non-Hungarian citizens arriving from Italy, with the proviso that anyone arriving would be instantly quarantined.
The operative board has also recommended banning indoor events of more than 100 people. The state of emergency will also allow the authorities to order people to self-isolate in their homes.
The minister said the government will discuss the proposals at its meeting this morning.
There are currently 13 people in Hungary that have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
